First, the Five-Year Community Calendar is growing every day. We are actively engaging with all the counties that surround Greenlee (and actually one additional county that doesn’t touch our boundary but we have so much in common with Demming in Luna County, so we include their posts in the calendar as well).
Second, the Frisco River Clean-up and Big Quack Duck Race are paddling our way fast! Saturday June 13th is the special day. Early bird volunteers get a breakfast snack at the ramada at the Clifton RV Park just like always. Break for lunch, then off to Zorrilla Bridge.
Third, Zorrilla Bridge at 1 pm is the place to be on Saturday June 13th – it sounds goofy, but watching those yellow duckies splash into the river and heading down river towards the Train Depot is a hoot. What’s also fun is watching folks walk – drive or splash their was down the river (yes we need duck herder volunteers). There are a few spots along Park Avenue where you can park and walk over towards the river and see the birdies on their way. Next to the Clifton Splash Pad parking lot is one spot, here you can get down to the sandy beach.
Across the street from Blue Door Sanctuary is a gravel parking lot that also provides a fun view at the wall in the west end of the parking lot. But the spot that gets the most photographers is the access point on the south side of the FMI Guest House. There are railings and stairs. Our patient audience members park at Sidebotham Park next to the Flood Gates and watch the Finish Line fun from the wall, or at river bank level.
Fourth, Flag Day June 14th, is a Sunday. Flag Day is a holiday celebrated in the United States. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. Do you know what that first flag looked like?
Fifth, Happy Father’s Day June 21. Special day of recognition for fathers, grandfathers, etc. Just as we honor mothers, we also give a tip of the hat to fathers who sacrificed for their families.
Sixth, join the Tourism Association! Post your upcoming events in the monthly newsletter and on the Calendar. We need you, and frankly we can help you!!
With out best regards, Akos Kovach, Chairman GTA
