The Black Hills Backcountry National Scenic Bywayis an adventurous, historic route boasting spectacular vistas of the Gila and San Francisco River Valleys. In 21 miles travel amongst high desert, a lush riparian environment, and forested mountains.
The Highway 78 “Mule Creek” route is a short, twisting road that climbs from the Gila River Valley into the nearby mountains complete with coniferous forests and streams as it enters New Mexico.
