This photo was sent to Clifton back in 2012 by the widow of one of the men in the photo. The box in front of them and the Tequila bottle on top was a treasured part of this group of WW II vets, all also members of American Legion Post 28 in Clifton.

The Society of the Last Man Standing survived until just recently β when Greg Tellez passed away. These heroes all belonged to Legion Post 28, and we are trying to put names with the faces. If you have stories to share that would be great!
These men are fathers and grandfathers, sons and brothers of families from here in Greenlee County. Back in the day, when this photo was taken, all the surviving men showed up for the funeral. The bottle of Tequilla was stored in that hand crafted Hallowed Box and was to be consumed by the last man standing. When they gathered for this 1968 photo they all signed a one and two dollar bill as a memento.

Many of these men worked in the mine after the war, and lived in the area until they passed. Please help us identify these brave soldiers and lets put names and stories together for generations to come.
Our new Legion Commander is Larry Avila, a Viet Nam veteran, please write him or call him if you can identify any of these men or have stories to share or other memorabilia.
