Morenci 4th Festivities

Independence Day festivities for Morenci and Clifton residents will start early and last into the night, beginning with a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. at the Morenci Motel. Breakfast will be served until 10 a.m., which will give the late riser a chance to grab a plate after the town’s Fourth of July parade, scheduled to start at 8 a.m. on Burro Alley. This year’s theme is “Star-Spangled Bash.” Prizes will be awarded for the most creative and festive floats.

There will be plenty of activities after the parade until 2 p.m. to keep people occupied. They include a car show in the Morenci Community Center Plaza, a street fair with various vendors, bounce houses in the Morenci Community Center gymnasium and parking lot, music in the Morenci Club, and activities in the Morenci Library. Over at the Aquatic Center, there will be open swimming from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., watermelon races in the outdoor pool from 12:30 to 1 p.m., and the 69th annual Money Dive in both the indoor and outdoor pools from 1 to 2 p.m.

Duncan 4th Festivities

Although Duncan traditionally held its July 4 Parade early in the morning, this year the town is taking a different tactic by scheduling the event in the evening and making it a parade of lights. As usual, the parade will take place through town on the Old West Highway. The parade lineup will begin at 6:30 with the parade itself set to start about 8 p.m.

Vendors and other activities will be set up at Duncan’s Centennial Park along the parade route beginning about 4 p.m. Fireworks will take place after the parade near the Duncan High athletic fields.
