As we bid farewell to 2025 it seems appropriate to ponder many of the milestones, both happy and sad, that occurred over the past 12 months. 1. The Catholic Church papal conclave elected Robert Prevost to become the first American born Pope. The Chicago native took the name Leo XIV.
2. A significant advance in AI innovation
3. GLP-1 drugs continued their revolution in treating diabetes and obesity.
4. No hurricanes made landfall in the United States for the first time in a decade.
5. The removal of four dams in Oregon and California’s Klamath River resulted in salmon returning after having disappeared for more than a century.
6. More than 20 states enacted laws or policies banning or restricting cellphone use in K-12 classrooms, helping children focus again on learning.
7. The last surviving Israeli hostages taken by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023, regained their freedom after more than two years in captivity as part of a peace deal to stop hostilities in Gaza.
8. Wildfires in Los Angeles County prompted mass evacuations, deaths and loss of homes.
9. The longest government shutdown in US history also hindered air travel in the US and abroad, as airlines were instructed to lower the number of flights offered due to strain placed upon TSA and FAA employees.
10. Pennies ceased to be minted after more than 230 years.
Obviously there were hundreds of other events, natural disaster, wars, many cherished radio, tv and movie personalities passed away…
But now we turn our night vision sights towards the future – welcome 2026. So many opportunities, so many challenges, and plenty of exceptional events on the horizon.
