So Much to See and Do~!

By Akos Kovach

I look forward each month to sharing good news, clearly there is plenty of the opposite available, but here in the Discover Greenlee Monthly newsletter we focus on the positive end of the spectrum.

COATS FOR KIDS! – The Greenlee County Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Copper Cloud, is proud to help keep our community’s kids warm this winter! They are currently registering children in Greenlee County (Morenci, Clifton, Duncan and everywhere in between) from toddler through teen who may need a warm coat for the upcoming winter season. Registration Deadline: October 9th, 2026. See the flyer.

The Chamber is also hosting their famous Christmas Bazaar. See the flyer.

Another fun event is the return of last year’s Clifton Fall Fiesta. It was such a fan and vendor favorite the Town of Clifton is bringing it back, once again at Riverside Park with all its amenities, access and availability. Mark your calendars and save Saturday Nov 21st. It will be a blast! Co-sponsors include Greenlee Tourism Association, Clifton Social Club, American Legion Clifton Post 28, and several other organizations. See flyers.

Then, on December 5th, the 30th Annual Festival of Lights Parade, and Festival of Lights Street Fair themed Pearls and Tinsel, in homage to its being the 30th annual Chase Creek Street vendor and entertainment event. The Clifton Social Club is leading the charge, as they have for the past 3 years. The parade is sponsored by the Town of Clifton.

Once again, various organizations are stepping up to support this important community activity. Food, live music, engaging speakers, games for kids, food trucks, local food booths and craft/merch vendors – it’s all here!

In closing, please take a look at the Facebook page for the famous Clifton Hill Climb returning April 16-17-18, 2027. A new twist has been added by the sanctioning organization, the Arizona Chapter of the Sports Car Club of America!

Please come visit Greenlee County, you will be glad you did!

Looking forward to seeing you,
Akos Kovach, Chair, Greenlee Tourism Association

Community Corner: The Greenlee Community Bridge

The Greenlee Community Bridge flyer

A new proposal from Kalen Reyes is inviting organizations across the county – schools, churches, healthcare, first responders, nonprofits, and volunteers – to connect through a “Community Bridge”: regular listening sessions, a shared resource directory, and stronger referral pathways, so families can find the right help faster.

This is intentionally just the start of a conversation. An announcement for the first listening session is coming soon, with a Zoom option to join. – Akos

Community Corner: Addressing the Rise and Fall of the Frisco

liarliarpantsonfire

We will not dwell on all the false rumors and outright lies posted online recently. To what end? Scare people? Cause a disturbance? Whatever the motivation, those of us who care about transparency and facts are offended by all the fuss generated by these anonymous people who post lies. Reminds me of the old days when we chimed ‘liar, liar, pants on fire’.

NOAA sent out two email blasts warning nearby residents of a Flood Warning, which gave some pranksters the notion they should post blatant lies about imminent flooding, the flood gates closing, etc. The fact is the river did rise to well above normal levels but not to any evacuations or flooding, we were very fortunate.

All this to share that we will always strive to bring you accurate information, news, facts and photo’s – count on us, on our social media platforms and our website. www.visitgreenleecounty.com – Thank you, Akos Kovach, Chair, Greenlee Tourism Association

Jacome Flamenco school residency photo

New!

From Tom Green | Gila Valley Arts Council

Hola,

I just wanted to share with you a few photos for this week’s school residency with Jacome Flamenco.

Many of you were at the evening performance and for me personally it was very special – in my youth I was able to spend 10 weeks in Salamanca, Spain attending classes at the University of Salamanca for my Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish Education from NAU during the summer of 1977, just 2 years after Francisco Franco had died, freeing up the country from his iron-fisted dictatorial reign. I came home to Arizona with a much deeper appreciation for all things Spanish: bullfighting, paella, cathedrals and of course the artistry of Flamenco guitar and dance.

Here is a link to a post I created today on our Facebook page with a couple of photos and a short video of just the beginning of Jacome’s dance workshop at Safford High School.

Thank you all for attending and your extra support for what we attempt to accomplish for our school kids.
