 | | | Happy Birthday, America~! | | |
| by Akos Kovach
Even the most reluctant among us who avoid social media still have an email address for family communication, medical contact and just ‘keeping up’. This is one of the zillion reasons the Greenlee Tourism Association generates a monthly newsletter ~ to stay connected, to provide valuable content and hopefully bring you an occasional smile or two in the process.
On this coming weekend many of us will star gaze, reminisce and reach out to those we love. As America turns 250 we are equally blessed to live in this great nation, imperfect? Well, each one of us fits that bill, but still we know this country remains free because of the brave. Those who serve in uniform, those who fight fires and respond to accidents, those who transport injured and ill ~ those who serve the public in a myriad of ways.
Thank you one and all.
The Greenlee Tourism Association has been actively promoting not only our county but also the counties that border our slice of heave. We need each other. Together we can accomplish far more than by standing alone.
So, please – do take these steps. When you ‘like’ something on social media please leave a comment. Then SHARE the post! Share it to your page, share it to a group page, but share it.
Once we get into the habit of like, comment and share, we can change the dynamics of the audience we are all trying to reach. Also utilize the Regional Five Year Planning Calendar – it costs you a few moments of your time, and the results speak for themselves.
Thank you for your subscription to our newsletter, but mostly thank you for sharing good news, thank you for sharing your events and Happy July 4th~!
Sincerely, Akos Kovach, GTA Chair | | |

|
| | Hello from Clifton Arizona~! | | |
| Home to numerous family and business connections in New Mexico and all neighboring Az counties – employment similarities – topography – recreation, and so much more.
Which is why years ago we started a Community Calendar mostly centered on Greenlee County, but grew immediately to connect and reach Cochise, Graham and Apache Counties in addition to Catron, Grant, Hidalgo and Luna Counties in New Mexico.
As you zip through our Five-Year Regional Planning Calendar the guessing game about when to host an event is easy to identify.
Avoid event conflicts or maybe find a possible ‘combination event’ option open up. The Regional Calendar resides at the www.visitgreenleecounty.com website but has its own landing page with easy to find events on this massive calendar.
Open to all city, town, village, and county offices, non-profit organizations, grant entities, all first responders, civic and social organizations, churches. etc.
Once a tourist or traveler is in the area it is up to all of us to make their experience so good they don’t want to leave, but if they do leave then they plan to or have already been back!
You are invited to participate at no cost, no fee. But take a look before you leap. Notice how events are distinguished by state flags, so it is easy to see if you are looking at a New Mexico event or an Arizona activity.
Dig in, and let’s all pull together to help boost all of our events with greater attendance numbers.
Contribute your flyers, articles and photos to visitgreenlee@gmail.com | | |

| | | | VOSH to Bring Local Clinics to Clifton | | |
| The first is an Eye Clinic @ American Legion Post 28 on August 22 |
| by Ed York, VOSH Arizona and Ákos Kovach, First Vice Commander, American Legion Post 28, Clifton Az
Our group is called VOSH Arizona a chapter of VOSH International which stands for Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity.
When we provide local care we refer to such an event as a clinic. And we are coming to the American Legion Post 28 in Clifton to hold one of these meaningful clinics. Internationally we refer to this process of hosting clinics as a mission and in Mexico - a Jornada.
Licensed doctors volunteer along with assistants to provide a complete eye exam and make quality glasses available as well as diagnostic information. WE care for those who would otherwise not receive such medical care.
We do make referrals to ophthalmologists. We do not take patients away from local doctors.
We are grateful to American Legion Post 28 for providing the space and facilities to offer this clinic on Saturday August 22. More details will be published as we get closer to the Free Eye Exam Clinic Day. | | |

 | | | Why Should You Collect Soda Can Tabs ??? | | |
| by Leslie James Ray | Clifton Visitors Center
- Soda can tabs can be donated to support various charitable organizations, such as the Ronald McDonald house charities, which uses proceeds for medical and housing needs.
- Recycling soda can tabs reduces landfill waste and conserves resources, contributing to a sustainable environment.
- Collecting and donating tabs promotes community collaboration, as we all unite for a common goal.
- Donating tabs is easy, just collect, clean, and drop off at a convenient location.
The Clifton Visitors Center is the drop off site for soda can tabs that we can all, as a community, save and donate to the Ronald McDonald house charities.
Its easy, take the tab off your soda cans, rinse under water to get any sticky stuff off and let dry. Put in a container, cup or small jar until you get a good supply, then put in a plastic baggie and bring down to the Clifton Visitors Center in the train depot, there is a big container to put your bag in. When we get a lot of tabs, we will package them up and send them to the Ronald McDonald house charities, to be distributed where needed in Arizona.
I have had a personal experience involving the Ronald McDonald house. When one of my grandsons was born, he was a preemie with multiple medical issues challenging his little body. He was sent to a NICU unit in Albuquerque, NM. My daughter would not have been able to be there with her baby without the support of the Ronald McDonald house. She was able to stay there for the three months, as the baby was cared for, underwent several surgeries and was finally strong enough to be brought home.
These soda can tabs can be recycled to raise funds that support families in need during medical situations.
Together we can make a difference……..start collecting the soda can tabs now. The visitors center hours are Monday-Friday 9am til 1pm. Thank you in advance for your help in this great cause. | | |

Haul Trucks Carry More Than Copper |
|
|
|---|
|
This Fourth of July, our haul trucks are carrying more than copper. At Bagdad, new haul truck beds feature the American flag painted directly onto the steel and built to last for years to come. Morenci will introduce its own version later this year, incorporating both the American and Arizona flags to reflect the communities it calls home. From the people who operate these trucks to the metals we mine, it all helps keep the country connected. We are proud to represent that work every day as America’s Copper Champion™. |
